POSITION TITLE: Mental Health Resource Navigator
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly
SCHEDULE: Full-Time (40 hours/week), Some evenings and weekends
LOCATION: Spokane, WA
SALARY RANGE: $19-$22, Determined on Experience
BENEFITS: Health care stipend, 12 paid holidays, paid sick and vacation time

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. The NAMI organization operates at the national, state, and local level. At NAMI Spokane, we envision a world where all those impacted by mental health conditions know they are not alone, and are empowered to live their most fulfilling life. We are the local NAMI Spokane Affiliate, working to provide support, education, and changes in policy at all levels to ensure better treatment, access, and a behavioral health system to meet the needs of all Spokane County residents, as well as residents in parts of Steven and Pend Oreille Counties, whose lives are affected by mental illness.

Position Summary
This position will help individuals living with mental health conditions and family members helping a loved one living with a mental health condition to navigate resources in the community. They will provide support and case management services to ensure participants have appropriate resources and access to care.

Responsibilities:
Navigation Services:
● Have a strong understanding of local resources and services in the mental health community.
● Work with individuals and families to help provide support and information about resources.
● Help create a case plan for individuals and families to access needed supportive resources and services.
● Ensure there is a process for individuals calling NAMI Spokane to receive navigation services.
● Build and maintain a system to keep track of all contacts and supportive services provided.
● Create a process for individuals served to provide feedback about services provided.

Program Outreach
● Build relationships with community partners who are providing mental health services and support.
● Create referral processes with community partners to ensure ease of access for individuals engaged in services.
● Communicate with the community at large about navigation services provided by NAMI Spokane.
Related Responsibilities
● Attend staff meetings.
● Create a process to document statistical information for grant compliance.

Requirements:
Education and Experience
● Required: HS/GED plus 3 years of experience with case management, social services or related work or education and experience in case management, social services or related field combined to equal 3 years.
● Preferred: AA in social services with two years of case management, social services or experience in a related field.

Key Qualifications:
● Ability to empathize with and advocate for individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs, including those from low-income households.
● Ability to work with vulnerable populations such as those re-entering the community from institutions such as jail, prison or mental health facilities.
● Demonstrate communication, life management and motivational skills to promote self-sufficiency rather than supporting dependence.
● Knowledge of local resources with the ability to network and link appropriate services together to meet individual and family needs.
● Exceptional interpersonal skills with emphasis on effectively working in a team environment and with a diverse population.
● Proficient in computer operations, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database; aptitude and ability to learn related technical skills.
● Ability to communicate confidently, safely, and effectively with people in crisis situations.
● Ability to maintain adherence to confidentiality.
● Strict adherence to professional boundaries.
● Ability to work without supervision.
● Flexibility and adaptability to create a new position for the agency.
● Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
● Valid WA Driver’s License and reliable mode of transportation.
