General Expectations for Volunteers
Volunteers are the heart of NAMI Spokane! Your gift of time and talent keeps our programs free and available to anyone who needs them. You can make a difference.
We ask that you be committed to NAMI’s vision of a world where all those impacted by mental illness know they are not alone, and are empowered to live a fulfilling life. Unlearning the damaging stereotypes and stigma around mental health that we may have grown up with can take time, and we ask that you engage in continued learning and introspection in this area.
We do not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, immigration status, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, visible and invisible disabilities, or any other demographic factor, and encourage people from a wide variety of backgrounds to be part of NAMI. We expect our volunteers to respect all identities and will periodically offer cultural competency workshops as part of continuing education for volunteers.
We would like volunteers to be able to commit to at least a year at NAMI Spokane (although we understand the many factors that come up in life – we will do our best to work with your availability and whatever time you are able to give). Please fill out our Volunteer Application and someone will be in touch.

NAMI Spokane is part of the largest grassroots mental health organization in the US, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). One of the most powerful things we can do to advocate for a better world when it comes to mental health is to show up in huge numbers. When you become a member of NAMI, you’re part of our advocacy efforts at the national, state, and local level. You count!
